Do It: Make a Mini Notebook

Christmas is almost here. I don’t have a lot of money to buy everyone nice presents, so I’m going the craft-route this year. I was recently reading through Danny Gregory’s An Illustrated Life and was struck by how many artists make their own sketchbooks. I would love to make a really fancy book some day with hundreds of pages and nice paper, but for now I decided to make the best with what I’ve got.

Scanning Large Files

I just explained my own method of scanning in my previous post. With that information in mind, I’ll now explain my method for scanning line art (or anything, really) that is too large for your scanner and having Photoshop ease the process of piecing the image together. I’ll be using a quick drawing I made on a 17″ x 14″ sheet of paper. The active area of my scanner is only about 8.5″ x 11.6″. Continued after the jump.

Scanning Line Art

I am by no means an expert at… well, anything. Still, I wanted to take some time to explain my process for scanning line art. This information has helped out a couple of friends in the past and I’m hoping that it might come in handy for others, even if only so that they can find fault with it and feel better about themselves and their own processes.
